We found that by themselves, cardboard tubes did not work very well under compression, but, when arranged in a celluloid grid they support each other, allowing for great strength.
A proposed idea for weighing down the structure, however after building the 1:1 prototype model we've found that the pavilion's self weight may be efficient.
